Travel Insurance
Whether it is through an existing service you have, like a bank account, or a separate policy it is a vital purchase to make. We have used travel insurance to cover treatment for food poisoning and to cover an extra week's stay in Gran Canaria after being grounded by covid.
There are plenty of offerings that would suit families or couples so shop around. We would recommend looking through what they cover (accidents, dental, illness), how long for and what the excess is.
In the unlikely event anything does happen over there, they have many English speaking clinics that will take brilliant care of you.
Vaccines
For the most up to date recommendations check out the suitable link and talk to your GP NHS vaccine advice, UK Gov, Irish government.
Sun protection
It can be HOT out there. Suncream can be a little more expensive so pick some up at the drugstore before you go, make sure it has full star UVA and UVB protection. It is also worthwhile investing in some UVA blocking swim tops/cover ups, and maybe a hat, for when you're out on a boat.
Water
The tap water is not suitable for drinking. Most hotels will provide bottled water and there is an abundance of 7/11’s to pick some up. There are sometimes filtered water stations but they are few and far between.
Food
The food is delicious! As with street food anywhere; if you bite into meat and it is hot outside and cold inside, or you have prawns that have a paste texture, spit them out and throw them away.
Mosquitoes
They are very annoying. You can get bug spray in all 7/11’s, there are also some handy gadgets like bracelets for kids and adults, as well as a bug bite sucker device that you can pick up on Amazon.
